Statement by Philip Tod, European Commission spokesman on health and consumer protection, on withdrawal of certain Greek yogurt products:

“The European Commission was not informed by the Greek authorities through the Rapid Alert System of the withdrawal in late February of certain Greek yogurts from the market due to the presence of mould, and we regret this. According to the Greek authorities, the problem was identified following complaints by consumers, the products concerned by the recall were only found on the Greek market and there was no risk to human health. The Commission is waiting for written confirmation by the Greek authorities through the Rapid Alert System that there was no risk to human health and that no other Member States were concerned, and this is expected by tomorrow.”
