Teenager confesses to killing British couple

A teenager arrested on Friday has confessed to murdering the elderly British couple who were living in northern Cyprus.

The bodies of Anne and Reece Mahony, aged 63 and 71, were discovered on Friday morning outside their villa.

The couple’s cleaner is said to have found the bodies several days after the murder.

The Turkish Cypriot press association reported that 18 year-old Ugur Degneki, believed to be the couple’s gardner whose family knew the Mahonys well, told Turkish Cypriot police that he had killed the couple and thrown the knife into the sea.

A handbag had been taken from the house and was found burned in the sand.

The Mahony couple had been living in northern Cyprus for 18 years.
