15% increase in travel abroad

The number of Cyprus residents travelling abroad rose by 15% year on year in January to 55,290, according to data released by the Statistical Service.

Greece was the most popular destination, with 19,517 visits–an increase of 21.4% on January 2004. The United Kingdom was the second most popular, with 10,002 visits, although this was only a tiny 0.2% increase on the previous year.

There has been a large jump in visits to the neighbouring Middle East, with visits to Egypt up 57.2% to 1,110 and vivist to Israel up 40.4% to 997.
