Cyprus industrial output up 2% in first quarter

The index of industrial production for March 2007 reached 116.1 (Base 2000=100), recording an increase of 3.9% compared to March 2006.

For the period January-March 2006 the index recorded an increase of 2.0% compared with the same period of the previous year.

Mining and quarrying rose by 4.1%, manufacturing by 2.2% and electricity, gas and water by 1.0% in the first quarter compared with the same quarter of 2006.

Within manufacturing, electrical and optical equipment performed particularly well, up 12.6% in the first quarter, while chemical, products and man-made fibres performed rose 7.8%, rubber and plastics rose 6.2% and metals and metals products rose 5.9%.
