Hermes Airports Ltd, the BOT operator of the island’s two main airports, expressed its regret over the injury of three workers during an accident on Tuesday afternoon at the construction site of the new Larnaca International Airport.

The company said that work was progressing normally and that the project will be delivered within the pre-agreed specifications and on schedule, by November 2009.

The three injured Chinese workers were rushed to hospital. One worker was released and the other two, who are not in a serious condition, remain in hospital under observation.
An announcement from Hermes Airports added that the “accident occurred when a concrete slab collapsed during pouring operations,” noting that “the appropriate government departments in collaboration with the construction company, Bouygues Batiment International, are investigating the cause of the accident”.
