Both Larnaca and Paphos airports continue to operate normally, serving passengers on all scheduled and available flights to and from Cyprus, operator Hermes Airports said Wednesday.

Airport operations are being carried out in full coordination with the relevant state authorities and the aviation community, it said.

In all, 103 flights are scheduled to take place and 66 have been cancelled, due to the US and Israeli conflict with Iran.

As airlines continue to adjust their schedules in response to ongoing developments, several airlines have scheduled additional flights to and from Cyprus’ airports for the second half of March, Hermes added.

Earlier, government spokesman Constantinos Letymbiotis reiterated that Cyprus airspace remains open, despite reports of an incident with a drone hitting a British military target at Akrotiri air base.

“The airspace of the Republic of Cyprus was never closed at any time. Two flights were asked to delay landing for a short period of time, in order to provide the necessary operational space [to patrolling Greek air force jets]. The captain of one of the two flights chose to return to Athens, while the second flight landed normally a short time later. The airspace continues to operate normally.”

On the other hand, European forces are ramping up their maritime defensive shield in the area, with the Greek navy sending two frigates and a pair of F-16 fighter jets, France maintaining a naval presence off the coast of Cyprus, and Britain sending two more vessels to protect its military on the island.

Meanwhile, a Cyprus Airways flight is expected to evacuate 180 Cypriot nationals from Dubai later Wednesday.

Based on the airlines’ schedules for Wednesday, a total of 65 flights are expected to operate at Larnaca airport and 38 flights at Paphos. At the same time, 48 flights to Larnaca were cancelled and 18 flights at Paphos.
