Cyprus trade deficit widens to CYP 402.1 mln in Jan-Feb

The Cyprus trade deficit in the first two months of 2007 widened to CYP 402.1 mln compared with CYP 369.0 mln in January-February 2006.

Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States) in January-February 2007 amounted to CYP 512.0 mln, compared with CYP 485.7 mln in January-February 2006.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States) in January-February 2007 reached CYP 109.9 mln, compared with CYP 116.7 mln in January-February 2006.

For February alone, total imports/arrivals were valued at CYP 245.8 mln and total exports/dispatches amounted to CYP 44.0 mln.

Meanwhile, on the basis of preliminary estimates for foreign trade in March 2007, total imports/ arrivals amounted to CYP 283.8 mln, of which CYP 202.3 mln were arrivals from other Member States of EU and CYP 81.5 mln imports from third countries.

Total exports/dispatches were CYP 52.1 mln of which CYP 34.3 mln were dispatches to other Member States of the EU and CYP 17.8 mln exports to third countries.

The trade deficit was CYP 231.7 mln.
