The Central Bank of Cyprus announced the issue of two collector coins, in silver and cupronickel, both of a nominal value CYP1 and year of issue 2007, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome, on 25/03/2007.
The issue is within the framework of the decision of euro-area Member States, for a common issue with identical design. The design, selected following a competition, shows the Treaty of Rome signed by the six founding countries of the EU on a background evoking the paving of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome (designed by Michelangelo).
The Central Bank of Cyprus has adopted the design which will appear on the two coins, the silver and the cupronickel. The Cyprus collector coins were minted by the Mint of Poland.

There will be a limited number of coins available for sale. The silver proof coin will have a run of 5.000 pieces and will be sold at CYP 20.00 or EUR 34.5 per piece, while there will be 10.000 pieces of Cupronickel uncirculated coin in capsule at the price of CYP 3 or EUR 5.20 per piece. The selling price includes VAT and is for deliveries over the counter.

The Central Bank of Cyprus will accept applications for the purchase of coins, provided they are accompanied by the relevant amount, from 12 February, 2007 until 2 March, 2007. The Central Bank of Cyprus reserves the right to terminate the application period earlier, if the applications received cover the available quantities. In such a case an announcement in the local press and on the Bank’s website will be issued.
Application forms can be also downloaded from the Central Bank of Cyprus website, www.centralbank.gov.cy.
