New legislation on aviation security

The new European Regulation on aviation security will come into force on Monday, November 6, 2006. This Regulation, which was adopted on 4 October 2006, is designed to protect civil aviation against the threat of home-made liquid explosives. It strictly limits the quantity of liquids that passengers can carry past screening points at airports and then on-board aircraft, while making certain exemptions for small quantities, for medicines and special dietary requirements and for liquids bought at airport shops, such as alcoholic drinks and cosmetics. The Regulation applies to all airports in the European Union.
