Hermes Airports, the new airport owner and operator announced a major overhaul of parking facilities and rates effective September 11, 2006, which introduce free parking for a limited 2-minute period, but also include price hikes of up to 300% for long term stay.

Under the new rates, the first 20 minutes will be free. Anything between 20 minutes and an hour will cost CYP 1 from CYP 30 cent before. From 1-3 hours: CYP 2 from 55 cent; 3-6 hours: CYP 3 from CYP 1.10; 6-12 hours: CYP 4 from CYP 1.65; and between 12 and 24 hours: CYP 5 compared to CYP 5.40 before. After the 6th day of continuous parking, the 24-hour rate will drop to CYP 3.50.

Hermes is hoping that by introducing the free parking concept for all those within 20-minutes of stay, public opposition to the new fee scale will be limited.

Renovations are also in the works for the airport parking. “In keeping with the ever-growing demands of parking, the Airport is implementing several upgrades,” said CEO of Hermes Airports Bob Manning.

“Improvements will include new pay and exit equipment, [a] reconfigured curb-side drop-off area in the front of the terminal, improved signage, security and increased capacity. We will also consider valet parking and some covered parking.”
