The Council of Ministers decided Thursday that the involvement of two Greek experts does not compromise the Cypriot team investigating the Helios crash last August and that there is no conflict of interest.

The Helios Airways lawyers alleged last week that the presence of the Greek experts could jeopardise the investigation as they were also members of the Greek Air Accidents Investigating Committee led by Akrivos Tsolakis. This caused the investigation to be suspended before it even started.

“Having considered all the facts and after an opinion from the Attorney General on the issue, the Council of Ministers decided that the participation of the Greek experts does not compromise the investigation and there are no reasons to cancel the previous decision of the Council of Ministers,” said government spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardis.

“As a result, the two Greek experts will remain in the service of Judge Kallis,” he said.
