Sites for Technological University being selected

The government has already picked some sites for the Technological University due to open in September 2007 and is in the process of selecting others, according to the Minister of Education and Culture Pefkios Georgiades, speaking after a meeting on Wednesday with President Tassos Papadopoulos on Wednesday.

The first faculties of the new Technological University in the Limassol district will open in September 2007 with around 1,000 students, rising to 7,000 when the project is completed.

Georgiades said that certain sites have already been earmarked for the Technological University and more sites are to be selected to begin the expropriation procedure.

Georgiades said the cost of the project would be undertaken by the state, adding that the first faculties would open in September 2007 and the rest in one or two years after that.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Christos Taliadoros, Minister of the Interior Andreas Christou, Minister of Health Andreas Gavrielides, Minister of Finance Michalis Sarris and department officials.
