Cairo will host the next Cyprus-Greece-Egypt heads of state trilateral Summit scheduled to take place in November to forge closer cooperation between the three neighbours especially on energy matters.
Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou announced the possible date after Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades met the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry in Limassol.
Shoukry, accompanied by the Ambassador of Egypt to Cyprus, Mai Taha Khalil, arrived earlier in the afternoon at the President’s residence and had a 15-minute meeting with the President of Cyprus, in the presence of Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides.
Prodromou said the meeting was positive and productive and Shoukry conveyed to President Anastasiades the wishes of Egyptian President Sisi for a quick recovery.
The Egyptian side reiterated its support to the sovereign rights and the energy program of the Republic of Cyprus, while wishing that talks for a Cyprus settlement will resume.
Anastasiades briefed the Egyptian FM about Turkey’s provocative actions in the region, while the two sides took stock of Cypriot-Egyptian relations and their trilateral cooperation with Greece.
Shoukry also informed President Anastasiades about the progress of the energy forum, held at the initiative of Egypt, and talked about the next steps in the two countries’ cooperation.
“Trilateral cooperation continues, also based on the initiative of our Foreign Ministry for the creation of some sort of coordination secretariat, while all issues are being forwarded in an orderly and quiet manner,” said Prodromou
He added that the dynamic of this cooperation will be confirmed once more during the upcoming Summit in Egypt.
Expanding trilateral cooperation with other states in the region was agreed during a meeting held Wednesday in Nicosia between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus and Egypt.
At their meeting it was agreed to expand the trilateral cooperation with other countries in the region on specific topics.
A business forum was also agreed to take place in Egypt to explore investment opportunities for Cypriot businessmen in connection with projects on the Suez Canal and the new administrative capital of Egypt.
The two Ministers stressed the importance of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum as well as the significance of turning this forum into an international organisation for energy issues.
