CYPRUS: Defence Minister to attend military exercise off Crete

Cypriot Defence Minister Savvas Angelides will be in Crete to attend the final phase of the joint military exercise codenamed "Medusa – 7 " also involving Greece and Egypt.


Angelides was invited to attend the exercise, taking place in the sea area off the Greek island, by the Greek Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos.

The Minister will be accompanied by the Chief of the National Guard, the Chief of the Navy Command and the Chief of Staff.

Air and naval forces from Cyprus, Greece and Egypt are participating in the exercise.

Cyprus’ contribution to the exercise is a patrol vessel, an  underwater demolition team and army officers.

According to the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), the land, air and sea exercise on and around Crete will be observed by military representatives from the United Arab Emirates, the US, Italy, Morocco and Portugal.

The exercise will run through to November 30.

The 4th Intergovernmental Defence Council between Greece and Cyprus will take place following the exercise. 

Joint actions and issues of common interest will be discussed by the Defence Minsters of Cyprus and Greece.
