CYPRUS: Bounced cheques issued in October climb to a 14-month high

The total value of bounced cheques issued in October climbed to more than €300,000, reaching their highest level since August 2017, data from the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) show.


CBC said a total of 105 bounced cheques were registered with a total volume of €0.33 mln, compared with 63 bounced cheques worth €0.09 million in October last year and 55 cheques worth €0.08 million in September 2018.

For the ten-month period January – October 2018, 741 bounced cheques with a total value of €1.32 mln have been registered, compared with 874 cheques amounting to €2.03 mln in the same period of 2017.

In October 46 persons were included on the registry, compared with 28 in October last year, the CBC said.

In the first ten months to October, a total of 365 persons have been preliminary blacklisted, compared with 418 persons in the same period of 2017.
