Over the past few days, Lufthansa pilots went on strike, causing chaos and disruption in Germany and across Europe. According to the European Trade Union Institute, Germans go on strike relatively rarely compared to other European countries. In Cyprus, 514 days were not worked per 1,000 employees between 2009 and 2013. Half of those were teachers, the others were from state-owned Cyprus Airways and utilities (EAC, Cyta). In Germany, the number of days not worked during the same period was 12. (Source: Statista)
