Two hundred runners took to the mountains on June 14 for Dro.Me.A. Racing’s «6th annual Garmin Troodos 15-km Green Race», making it an event to remember. The race, which is amongst the island’s toughest running events, meanders across a rocky terrain to the island’s highest elevation point.

“We are delighted that the event is growing year by year,” said Nikos Sourmelis, President of Dro.Me.A. Racing. “We are proud to have hosted yet another successful event this year, and are grateful for the support of the community and our partners.”

Sourmelis stressed the significance of the event organizers’ aspiration- to have a positive impact on the promotion of recreational sport, as well as to feature Cyprus’ forests as an ideal place for outdoor sporting activities, with respect for the environment.

On a competitive note, Rebecca Hannah of UNFICYP, won the women’s category with a time of 1hr 16’50’’, while Andri Vankas of Buff Cyprus came second at 1hr 20’03’’ and Elina Sophokleous finished third at 1hr 25’. In the men’s overall division the winner was Tom Adams of UNFICYP in 57’19’’, with Kassahun Jebel of Dro.Me.A. Racing (and GSP) taking 2nd place in 1hr 00’52’ and Constantin Marian-Cosmin of Buff Cyprus finishing 3rd in 1hr 01’48’’.

During the event, Becel Pro.Activ offered free cholesterol and blood pressure measurements in an effort to raise awareness for health-related parameters, beyond an active and healthy lifestyle.

For the award ceremony, the medals were presented by Mr. Philippos Sophokleous, Substitute Director General of the CSO, Mr. Marios Pollou, as well as Mr. Giannis Ioannou of Garmin and Mrs. Maria Papaloizou on behalf of Becel Pro.Activ.

The event’s major sponsor was Garmin. Other sponsors included Becel Pro.Activ and Webarts. The race was under the auspices of KOEAS, was supported by the CSO, while the media sponsor was Supersport FM.

Dro.Me.A. Racing expresses its gratitude to all those who contributed to the successful completion of the event- the 159th System of Evrychou Scouts, the 273rd System of Aglantzia Scouts, the volunteers of Dro.Me.A. Racing and to the supporters: the Helicopter Department of Cyprus Police, Prinos Lachanagora, Nomadic State of Mind, Eshopforsports and Micromania.
