SPORTS: Microsoft Cyprus supports the Special Olympics

Microsoft Cyprus stands beside the Cyprus Team for Special Olympics, supporting the athletes who compete, promoting fair play and respect for the human spirit.

As part of a wider Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Microsoft continually supports the Special Olympic Team of Cyprus with free software, while having also sponsored cyclist Dimitris Neanidis. Dimitri took part in the European Special Olympics in September 2014, winning two gold medals for Cyprus.

Moreover, through the «Adopt an Athlete» programme, Microsoft Cyprus sponsored athlete Nikos Limniotis, who will represent Cyprus in football at the International Special Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, USA, in 2015. Microsoft also supports the Special Olympics by sponsoring the medals, the t-shirts and caps for the events taking place in Cyprus. Microsoft Cyprus staff voluntarily participates in the organization and support of national competitions.

At an international level, Microsoft recently announced a three-year, multimillion dollar partnership with the Special Olympics to modernize the non-profit’s software and games management system, and upgrade it to the Cloud, increasing productivity while facilitating greater achievement.

Referring to Microsoft’s support, athlete Dimitris Neanidis said: "Nothing would be possible without the help of Microsoft. Microsoft you are the best! You gave me the chance to win!”

Citizenship Lead of Microsoft Cyprus, Ms. Laura Anne Ker-Lindsay, said: "Microsoft Cyprus, in the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility, proudly supports Cypriot athletes of the Special Olympics. These athletes are an authentic example of fair play and the real value of Olympism, are based on solidarity, understanding and acceptance of diversity."
