Energy developments in Cyprus have raised intense interest by the UK government and British companies, both in meetings within the schedule of President Anastasiades and in the bilateral contacts that Cypriot ministers have had in London, Cypriot Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis has said.

During his meetings as part of the President’s visit to London, Lakkotrypis said he met his British counterpart. “We discussed ways of cooperating and how the UK government could assist us, given that we are still in the early stages of developing our (hydrocarbons) reserves, whereas the UK has long experience in the subject, particularly due to the North Sea reserves,” noted the minister.

Referring to the dinner that was hosted by his British counterpart in honour of President Anastasiades on Wednesday evening at Lancaster House, Lakkotrypis commented that on this occasion participants expressed keen interest in the developments surrounding the energy sector of Cyprus.

He added that on Thursday morning he attended a roundtable discussion organised by the Centre for European Reform, during which he elaborated on what has happened so far and also what the Cypriot government plans to do with regard to the development of the country’s gas and reserves.
