MTN Cyprus call quality up, population cover 90% by year-end

MTN Cyprus has seen its network quality improve over the years, with its call quality reaching 84.7% and the population coverage at 85%, rising to 90% by the end of the year.
Senior company officials told a press briefing that quality network benchmarking, measured by telecom researchers Fasmetrics and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki that the call success rate over 5,000 samples is 98.51%, above the international benchmark of 98%.
Also, MTN’s call drop rate, when outgoing calls fail, is 0.88%, which again is better than the international benchmark of 2%, according to Fasmetrics readings.
The call quality rate, or the "I can hear you as if in the room next door" level, is 84.7%, while MTN Cyprus also hopes to raise its population cover from the current 85%, to 90% by the end of year.
The telco did not have year-on-year data to provide to the media.
MTN’s CEO, Philip Van Dalsen, stated that “we made it our mission to relentlessly evaluate our operations through the involvement of reputable third parties that measure our performance. Their methods are scientifically proven and bring results which cannot be challenged by anyone.”
Fasmetrics clients include Vodafone, Nokia Siemens Networks, Huawei Technologies, Cosmote, Siemens, Alcatel and ZTE Corporation.
For 2013 and 2014, MTN Cyprus plans to expand further its 3G+ coverage to less accessible areas, to enhance its HSDPA+ footprint and to proceed with 4G.
