The feast day of Apostle Varnavas will be celebrated this year in the occupied Monastery in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus.
According to a press release, arrangements have been made with the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus so that the Saint’s Day is celebrated in its monastery, situated in Turkish occupied Cyprus.

Apostle Barnabas was martyred at Salamis, Cyprus, in 61 AD, now occupied by Turkish troops since 1974.

He is the founder and patron of the Church of Cyprus.
The feast day of Barnabas is celebrated on June 11.

The Republic of Cyprus, which joined the EU in May 2004, has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and since then occupy 37% of Cyprus` territory, despite numerous resolutions and decisions by the UN, the EU and other international organisations, calling for Turkey`s withdrawal from Cyprus.
