Conference of Presidents of the EP to convene in Cyprus

The Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament, consisting of the President of the Parliament Martin Schulz and the presidents of the political groups, convenes Thursday in Nicosia, in view of the Republic’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

As part of the visit, Schultz will meet in the afternoon with Cypriot President Demetris Christofias at the Presidential Palace.

President Christofias and Schultz will meet members of the Cabinet and later on attend the Conference of Presidents which will last two hours.

Afterwards, President Christofias and Schultz will give a press conference.

President Christofias will then host a dinner for Schultz and members of the delegation at the Presidential Palace.

On Friday, the Conference of Presidents will meet the House President Giannakis Omirou, leaders of political parties and the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Averof Neophytou.

Cyprus will assume, for the first time since it joined the EU in May 2004, the six monthly rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in July.
