In order to promote Europe to both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus is organising and participating in a series of events and activities, on the occasion of Europe Day (9 May).
According to a Press release issued Tuesday by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the main event for the Europe Day celebrations will take place on Sunday, 13 May, at Phinikoudes, Larnaca, from 18:00 to 23:00.
The event is organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the European Parliament Information Office in Cyprus, the Press and Information Office, the Europe Direct Information Centre Larnaca and the Municipality of Larnaca, together with the Embassies of the EU Member States. The celebration will take the form of a street festival followed by an open reception.
The festival includes a performance by composer and singer Larkos Larkou, the Charis Ioannou Quartet, Tango project, as well as children's activities. During the event, information and promotional material will be distributed by the organisers and the EU Embassies.
Larnaca Mayor, Andreas Louroutziatis, will open the event.
On May 8, the Municipality of Limassol, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the Coordinating Council of Limassol Cultural Agencies are organising an open discussion in the Patticheio Center for the Elderly, Limassol, entitled ''Active Ageing and Culture'', to honour the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012, within the context of Europe Day.
On Europe Day, May 9, the Municipality of Lakatamia is organising an event at 18:00, to be addressed by the Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, Georgios Markopouliotis and the Mayor of Lakatamia, Loukas Iatrou.
The Embassy of Denmark, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the European Parliament Information Office in Cyprus are organising a reception at the Old Mosaic Restaurant at Selimiye Square in the occupied part of Nicosia, on May 10, from 19:00 to 21:30, to celebrate Europe Day.
On Saturday, May 12, all bike lovers in Cyprus are invited to join the Bicycle Tour of Nicosia, starting at 10:30 in front of the EU House, to promote green mobility and the bicycle culture in Nicosia.
The event is organised by the Embassy of Denmark, the Cyprus Cycling Federation, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the European Parliament Information Office in Cyprus, together.
The event will be addressed by the Danish Ambassador Kirsten Geelan, the Head of Representation, Georgios Markopouliotis, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Sofoklis Aletraris and Communications and Works Minister, Efthymios Flourentzou.
On Wednesday, 16 May, the 12th International Pharos Chamber Music Festival opens with a concert with Lars Hannibal and Michala Petri at the Shoe Factory, supported by the Embassy of Denmark. The same musicians will perform on Thursday, 17 May, at Bedesten concert in the occupied part of Nicosia.
