Cyprus inflation reached 3.3% in 2011

Nicosia, Jan (CNA) – Inflation recorded a significant rise in December 2011, increasing by 3.9% compared to 3.8% in November 2011, while for the whole year of 2011 the inflation rate recorded an increase of 3.3% compared to 2.4% in 2010.

According to data published today by the Statistical Service, the Consumer Price Index for December 2011 increased by 0,02 units or 0,02% to 118,95 units compared to 118,93 in November 2011.

This is mainly due to increases in the prices of electricity and diesel for motorcars and central heating, says a press release issued.

It is noted that decreases have been recorded in the prices of petrol, potatoes and certain fresh vegetables.

The rate of increase of the Index, and therefore the rate of inflation for December 2011 increased by 3.9% compared to 3.8% in November 2011 and 1.6% in December 2010, it is added.

For the whole year of 2011, the Index recorded an increase of 3.3% compared to the inflation rate of 2.4% in 2010, the press release concludes.
