Cyprus business cutting back on paper, survey says

More than 50% of the enterprises with computers say that they have policies for reducing the amount of paper used in printing or copying according to the annual Statistical Service survey entitled Information and Communication Technologies Usage and E-Commerce in Enterprises 2011.
The survey covered 1,430 enterprises with 10 or more employees in specific categories of economic activity.
The survey found that 55.9% of enterprises that used computers had policies for reducing the amount of paper used in printing or copying (55.9%) and 50% had policies for using telephone,. web or video conferencing instead of physical travel.
The survey found that 89.3% of the enterprises with Internet access in 2010 used the Internet to interact with public authorities during the previous year. Most of these enterprises used the Internet for obtaining information from public authorities’ websites (87.0%) and obtaining forms (82.3%).
The most common reason that limited electronic interaction of an enterprise with public authorities was the fact that electronic procedures still require exchange of paper mail or personal visits (43.0% of enterprises that used computers).
Only 61.6% of enterprises have a website, of which 92.2% of these offer access to product catalogues and price lists.
Just 26.3% of the enterprises used the Internet for accessing tender documents and specifications in electronic procurement systems (e-Procurement) of public authorities.
As regards e-Commerce 8.1% of enterprises accepted orders via computer networks while 28.4% of enterprises using computers placed orders via computer networks.
The survey found that 38.4% of the enterprises that used computers provided employees with remote access to the enterprise’s system, documents and applications.
