Chairman of Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) Alekos Orountiotis described 2012 as a difficult year for arrivals and revenue, hoping that “we will be able to maintain the figures we had in 2011”.

Speaking to the press after a meeting he had with the President of the Republic at the Presidential Palace, Orountiotis said that he is slightly optimistic for 2012, noting that if we manage to keep the percentage of 2011, this will constitute “a great success”.

Orountiotis said that he briefed the President on the data for the 2011 summer season as well as for CTO’s future projects.

“We hope that in 2012 , the arrivals from Great Britain will be at the same level as in 2011 and that we will manage to increase the arrivals from some other countries like Russia”, he noted.

He went on to say that in 2010 we managed to hold back the decrease in the arrivals and in 2011 we have recorded an increase of 11.1% in the arrivals and 14.6% in the tourism revenue.
