Cyprus trade deficit stable in January (prelim)

The trade deficit in Cyprus reached EUR 373,622 in January 2011 compared with EUR 374,467, according to preliminary estimates for the month.
Total imports/ arrivals were estimated at EUR 468.8 mln, of which EUR 325.5 mln were arrivals from other Member States of the EU and EUR 143.3 mln imports from third countries.
Total exports/dispatches reached EUR 95.2 mln of which EUR 61.2 mln were dispatches to other Member States of EU and EUR 34.0 mln exports to third countries.
According to revised data for December, the trade deficit for the whole of 2010 widened to reached EUR 5,316.7 mln in January-December 2010 compared with EUR 4,721.3 mln in the corresponding period of 2009.
This is equivalent to around 30% of GDP.
Total imports/arrivals, which cover total imports from third countries and arrivals from other Member States, amounted to EUR 6,460.9 mln in 2010, compared with EUR 5,691.8 mln in January-December 2009.
Total exports/dispatches, which cover total exports to third countries and dispatches to other Member States, reached EUR 1,144.3 mln compared with EUR 970.4 mln in 2009.
During December 2010 alone total imports/arrivals were EUR 541.3 mln and total exports
EUR 103.3 mln, with exports of domestically produced goods reaching EUR 47.4 mln.
