Registered unemployed records increase in Cyprus

Unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of June 2010, reached 22.460 persons.

According to Cyprus Statistical Servise (CyStat), based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for June 2010 recorded an increase of 1.7% compared to the previous month and reached 23.838 persons.

In comparison with June 2009, an increase of 5.720 persons or 34,2% was recorded, which was mainly observed in the sectors of construction (an increase of 970 unemployed persons), public administration (an increase of 944), trade (an increase of 871), hotels and restaurants (an increase of 567), manufacturing (an increase of 538), education (an increase of 295), real estate and business activities (an increase of 262), as well as to newcomers in the labour market where an increase of 667 unemployed persons was recorded.
