Cyprus tourism rebounds 4.7% in May

Tourism arrivals in Cyprus rebounded in May after a plunge in April that was exacerbated by the volcanic ash episode.
On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 258,014 in May 2010 compared with 246,546 in May 2009, recording an increase of 4.7%.
An increase of 42.5% was recorded in tourist arrivals from Russia (from 19,412 in May 2009 to 27,668 in May 2010) and 10.6% increase from Sweden (from 14,927 to 16,512 this year).
However, a decrease of 2.4% was recorded in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom (127,061 in May 2010 compared with 130,154 in May 2009) and a falloff 0.1% in arrivals from Greece (10,524 compared with 10,531 last year) .
For the period January – May 2010 arrivals of tourists fell by 3.1% to 602,678 compared with 622,070 in the corresponding period of 2009.
