16 activists killed on Gaza aid ships off Israel

At least 16 activists were killed in an Israeli naval takeover on Monday of a Gaza-bound aid convoy, an Israeli military spokesman said.

"Our initial findings show that at least 10 convoy participants were killed," the spokesman said. The military said in a statement that commandos came under gunfire and knife attack and that at least four soldiers were wounded. An Israeli television station said earlier about 16 people were killed.
