Cyprus retail trade falls in January

Retail trade fell in January according to provisional figures from the Statistical Service.
The turnover volume index of retail trade (excluding automotive fuel) in January fell by 4.6% compared with January 2009.
Compared with the previous month, the volume index fell by 30.4% for seasonal reasons.
According to revised figures for 2009, retail trade volume in December fell by 3.6% compared with December 2008 and rose by 40.3% compared with November.
For the whole of 2009 the retail trade volume fell by 4.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
Meanwhile, in terms of value, retail sales value fell by 4.0% in 2009 according.
According to provisional estimates for January, retail trade values fell by 5.1% over January 2009.
