Tourism arrivals dropped over the same period of 2009 by 2.4% in February to 55,250, compared with 56,626 in February 2009.
This was the same pace of decline recorded in January, although one consolation was that this was a milder decrease than the sharp falls recorded in the second half of 2009, when tourism arrivals fell on average by more than 10%.
On bright spot was that despite the ongoing economic crisis, an increase of 11.6% was recorded in tourist arrivals from Greece, from 6,596 in February 2009 to 7,362 in February 2010.
Arrivals from Russia, an increasingly important trade partner, rose by 23% to 2,893 from 2,347 in February 2009.
However, a decrease of 4.5% was recorded in tourist arrivals from the UK (25,013 in February 2010 compared to 26,178 in February 2009) and a fall of 17.4% in arrivals from Germany (4,514 compared to 5,466 last year).
For the period January – February 2010 arrivals of tourists totalled 101,202 compared to 103,693 in the corresponding period of 2009, recording a decrease of 2.4%.
