Cyprus outward tourism up 2.1% in December

On the basis of the results of the Passengers’ Survey, the number of residents of Cyprus returning from a trip abroad rose by 2.1% to 89,287 compared with 87,441 in the corresponding month of 2008.
In December 2009 there was an increase of 1.1% in the trips of residents to Greece (from 33,092 in December 2008 to 33,461 in December 2009) as well as an increase of 8.5% in trips to the United Kingdom (from 25,279 to 27,432 in 2009).
For the year as a whole, however outward tourism was down by 3.1%.
For the period January – December 2009, 1,172,268 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad compared to 1,209,802 in the corresponding period of 2008.
In January – December 2009 there was a decrease of 6.5% in the trips of residents to Greece (417,710 in period January – December 2009 compared with 446,832 in period January – December 2008).
