Local animal and dairy production in Cyprus

The Statistical Service has produced various statistics on the production of animal and dairy products in Cyprus.
The production of cows’ milk for December increased to 13,100 tons from 12,160 tons in the previous month. Compared to the same month of the previous year it increased by 4%.
The quantities of milk products for June reached to 6,520 tons of drinking milk, 290 tons of cream, 520 tons of acidified milk and 70 tons of cheese from cow’s milk.
The number of animals slaughtered in December recorded an increase for all kinds of animals, compared to the previous month. T
he total weight (meat) of every kind of meat followed the same trend. Compared to the same month of the previous year, slaughterings have the following changes for each kind of animal: cattle +16.9%, pigs +11%, sheep +23.5%, goats -27% and poultry -7.6%.
The number of eggs for hatching placed in incubation in December, reached 54,750 eggs for laying and 1,733,350 eggs for meat.
Compared to the previous month, the eggs for laying recorded a decrease of 62.9% whereas the eggs for meat recorded an increase of 12.3%.
Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the eggs placed in incubation for laying recorded a decrease of 41.1% and the eggs for meat recorded a decrease of 0.2%.
The chicks used for laying in December, increased to 28,870 compared to 15,870 in November and the chicks used for meat increased to 1,212,740 from 1,143,170 in the previous month.
Compared to the corresponding month of 2007, the chicks used for laying recorded a decrease of 6.4% as well as the chicks used for meat recorded a decrease of 5.8%.
