January’s rainfall was only 78% of the month’s average over previous years, with the highest amount recorded at the Stavros tis Psokas forest station, followed by Prodromos and Platania villages, as well as Larnaca airport.
But the data, recorded two days short of the month’s close, showed that the monthly average rainfall ranged between 35% and 82% with only Larnaca airport, Xylotymbou, Frenaros, Kellaki and Stavros tis Psokas recording above-average levels of rainfall.
Water Development Dept. officers said that the flow into the dams was average to below-average for the month, raising the national level of water to 10%, slightly above the levels recorded in January 2008.
