USA and Cyprus to sign Science and Technology agreement

The United States of America and the Republic of Cyprus will sign a Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement on February 5, 2009 at the Ministry of Finance offices in Nicosia. Minister of Finance Charilaos Stavrakis will sign on behalf of Cyprus, and U.S. Ambassador Frank C. Urbancic will sign on behalf of the United States''. The official signing ceremony is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
The agreement aims to strengthen scientific and technological capabilities, broaden and expand relations between the extensive scientific and technological communities in both countries, and promote scientific and technological cooperation in areas of mutual benefit for peaceful purposes.
The press release says that ''events in several cities related to the signing have been organized in collaboration with the Government of Cyprus through the Planning Bureau and institutional partners such as the Cyprus Institute, the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus-American Business Association, and the Chamber of Commerce''.
It adds that ''these include seminars on nanotechnology, water management, marine archaeology, high-performance computing, and cognitive neuroscience''.
