French satellite operator Eutelsat Communications Group SA is interested in buying Greek counterpart Hellasat from OTE, Eutelsat Chief Executive Officer Giuliano Berretta said.
He told Italian business newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore that consolidation among leading satellite operators was completed and only "small shopping operations" remained in Europe.
Asked if Eutelsat would take part in such deals, Berretta said, "If there is the opportunity, it is possible. For example, we are interested in Hellasat."
He added that phone company OTE could put the unit up for sale. Eutelsat is the world's third-biggest satellite operator. (Reuters)
