Cyprus to open more diplomatic representations abroad

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to open additional embassies abroad, Minister Erato Kozakou Marcoulli has told the House Finance Committee.
Speaking during a debate on the Ministry’s 2008 budget before the Committee, Marcoulli said the Ministry has drafted a five-year programme to open and operate 25 new diplomatic missions.
These will open at EU member states, Arab and Islamic states as well as countries that are likely to become permanent members of the Security Council.
The budget for this programme is estimated at CYP600.000 per year, she said.
Marcoulli said embassies will open in Romania, Slovakia, Jordan, Bulgaria, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Lithuania, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Canada, Estonia, Kuwait, UAE, Oman and Brazil.
