A 47-year-old Cypriot man was remanded in police custody for four days on Monday in connection with an animal cruelty case after he posted a video of a fox being tortured.

The man, from the Pera Chorio Nisou, was arrested on Sunday after a video was posted online showing a fox being held captive in a cage.

In the video, the fox is seen being tortured, while the man in the video was apparently on the phone, trying to sell it to someone.

Police said they tracked down the man after the intervention of Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis who reported the case to the Game and Wildlife Conservation Services.

In a statement, the Game and Wildlife Service said the person was known to them as he has posted similar videos in the past and has been charged for poaching and animal cruelty on several occasions.

According to the police, a second video circulated by the same man showed a hare, possibly injured, in the kitchen of a house and a person shooting the video allowing a hunting dog near it.

Police said that they had tracked down the man with the help of the cybercrime unit.

Police officers arrested the man at his home and confiscated two mobile phones as evidence.
