ENERGY: Europe will protect Cyprus against Turkey bully-boy tactics

Europe will not leave Nicosia undefended against Turkish provocations in Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.

Mitsotakis told journalists after meeting French President Emmanuel Macron that European solidarity and Europe will not leave Cyprus unprotected against Turkish illegal actions in Cyprus’ EEZ.

Macron expressed France’s solidarity towards Greece and Cyprus over Turkey’s drilling activity in Cyprus waters.

“The European Union and France will not show any weakness in this respect,” Macron said.

France’s Total is a major player in Cyprus’ search for exploitable natural gas riches.

The President of France and the Greek Prime Minister also discussed the French-Greco defence cooperation, as well as issues of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
