CYPRUS: Number of registered unemployed plunges 20.4% in June

The number of Cyprus registered unemployed at District Labour Offices, decreased by 20.4% or 4,848 in June 2019 compared to a year ago, according to official data.

Registered unemployed in June reached 18,960 from 23,808 in 2018. Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for June decreased to 22,238 compared to 22,548 in the previous month.

The decline is mainly attributed to the sectors of trade (a decrease of 987), construction (-603), accommodation and food service activities (-485), public administration (-394), manufacturing (-337), professional, scientific and technical activities (-174) and to newcomers in the labour market ( -1,517).
