Daylight Saving Time for 2019 will begin at 03:00 on Sunday 31 March in Cyprus when the clocks should be moved one hour ahead, the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry announced Friday.

The official start of summer time next week applies to all countries in the European Union and the season will official end on Sunday, October 27 when the clocks go back one hour.

The idea behind the clock shift is to maximize sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere, as days start to lengthen in the spring and then wane in the fall. The logic is that by springing forward and falling back, people add an hour of sunlight to the end of the work day.
