CYPRUS: Anastasiades-Macron to focus on energy and regional security

Energy issues and co-operation in the field of security will be on the discussion agenda during a meeting in Nicosia on Tuesday between the Presidents of Cyprus and France.


According to CNA sources, the official meeting between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron takes place in the framework of contacts of the two countries, both at a Presidential and ministerial level.

Anastasiades paid an official visit to Paris in November 2017 and attended WWI centenary remembrance events in the French capital last year.

Efforts to bolster bilateral ties have been underway for some time now. The two sides are working on closer cooperation and possible agreements on energy, defence and security.

France has a keen interest in East Med security stability and French company Total is exploring for oil and gas offshore Cyprus.

Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, Energy Minister George Lakkotrypis, Defence Minister Savvas Angelides will attend Tuesday’s meeting with Macron’s delegation from the French presidency.
