The Cypriot Cabinet decided on Wednesday to appoint a military attaché in Washington to enhance the blossoming Cyprus-US ties.

According to Deputy Government Spokeswoman Klelia Vasiliou, the decision is part of an effort to strengthen bilateral ties between Cyprus and the United States and to engage in a balanced defence diplomacy.

The appointment follows a 2011 Cabinet decision concerning the appointment of military attachés in important capitals, she added.
