UN envoy Jane Holl Lute will meet Greek Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Georgios Katrougalos, on December 12 in New York to discuss how to end the stalemate in Cyprus talks.

Katrougalos will be in the United States for the launching of the strategic dialogue between the US and Greece, on December 13, in Washington.

The Greek official will not meet UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as he will be in Morocco at the time.

Lute originally intended to visit Athens during the first week of December, but it was cancelled due to a busy schedule on the Greek side.

Her planned visit to Ankara has not been arranged. Diplomatic sources said a similar meeting could have been arranged with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu, who was in New York last week.

The same sources said Lute will be visiting Nicosia after she concludes her meetings with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of guarantor powers Britain, Greece and Turkey.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
