Retailers at Cyprus’ new super mall are more than pleased by the turnout since opening on 21 November, with an estimated 15% of the island’s 1.2 million population paying a visit.

According to the Nicosia Malls estimations, made with the use of a specialised system which avoids counting the same individual twice, some 34,000 visitors passed through the mall’s gates just on Sunday.

The surge in customers was also bolstered by last week's Black Friday rush.

Nicosia Mall Holdings’ Chairman Marios Kalochoritis, talking to Insider, said that the new mall plays host to an impressive collection of top retail brands, some of which are making their first appearance in the Cyprus market.

He added that the 140-store Nicosia Mall also offers shoppers with a series of restaurants and entertainment options.

According to Kalochoritis, the mall has created some 1,200 new full time jobs, while around 2,000 were employed during the construction of the mall.

He added that more than 90% of the mall’s shops have opened their doors to shoppers, while over the next few days the rest of the shops are to open, with the Athienitis supermarket being among them.
