The Committee on Missing Persons said Monday that Germany had donated €100,000, bringing total financial assistance to the CMP to €600,000 since 2006, making it the fifth largest single donor country.

“This contribution to the CMP Project on the Exhumation, Identification and Return of Remains of Missing Persons in Cyprus will support the Committee’s goal of identifying and returning as many remains of missing individuals as possible to bring an end to the uncertainty which has affected so many families for so many years,” said a CMP statement.

So far, 896 missing persons from both Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities have been identified and returned to their families for dignified burials.

Most Greek Cypriots declared missing are from 1974 while most Turkish Cypriot were listed as missing in 1964.

The CMP relies on donor support to alleviate the suffering of the concerned families.
