It is only a matter of time before there are flights to Alexandria and Cairo from Paphos airport the town’s mayor Phedonas Phedonos was assured on Wednesday.

Visiting Egypt parliament speaker Ali Abdel Aal, told the Paphos Mayor that his country’s parliament will ratify within the coming weeks a bilateral agreement with Cyprus on the liberalisation of flights to and from Alexandria and Cairo airports.

He said once the agreement has been ratified it is a matter of time before direct flights start between Paphos and Alexandria as was the goal of a recent twinning between the two cities.

Head of Egypt’s parliamentary committee on tourism and civil aviation Sahar Tallat Mostafa, who is accompanying the House Speaker also made assurances to that effect.

The agreement has already been approved by the Egyptian government keen to boost tourism ties with nearby Cyprus.

The Egyptian official visited on Wednesday the archaeological sites of Paphos.
