CYPRUS: Unemployment declines by nearly a quarter in August

The number of registered unemployed in Cyprus decreased in August by 7,137 people or 23%, compared to the same time last year.


According to District Labour Office data, registered unemployed reached 23,866 people at the end of August 2018 from 31,003 in 2017.  

Seasonally adjusted data show that the registered unemployed in August 2018 fell 2.42% to 25,418 people, from 26,049 the month before.

The annual decrease of 23% is attributed mainly to the sector of trade (1,332 less unemployed), construction (-946), public administration (-809), accommodation and catering (-794), manufacturing (-717), transportation (-247) and for newcomers to the labour market there was a fall of 1,394.
