TRAVEL: Passenger traffic at Cyprus airports reaches six million in July

Passenger traffic at Cyprus’ two international airports jumped by 8% to nearly six million in the seven-month period January – July 2018.

According to data released by operator Hermes Airports, Larnaca and Paphos airports saw a total of 5,939,198 passengers passed through terminal recording an increase of 8% in the seven months to July. There were 438,834 more travellers than in the same period last year. 

In July alone the two airports processed 1,414,954 passengers compared with 1,363,165 in July 2017, marking an increase of 3.8% year-on-year.

A total of 1.06 million passengers travelled to and from the larger Larnaca Airport in July compared with 1.04 million in 2017, representing an increase of 1.7% in arrivals. 

For January – July 2018 Larnaca passenger traffic reached 4.38 million against 4.14 million in the same period last year, an additional 0.24 million passengers or 5.8% yearly rise. 

Data for the smaller Paphos airport, show a bigger percentage increase. 

In July a total of 351,723 passengers passed through the airport on the west coast at an annual increase of 10.8% increase or 317,557 more people on last year.

For the first seven months, passenger traffic at Paphos Airport reached 1.56 million up by 14.6% on the 2017 figure of 1.36 million, Hermes said.

Cyprus has been enjoying a tourism revival over the past two years with a record 3.65 million arrivals last year and more tourists expected in 2018.
